Visualising Calmness and Anxiety in abstract form
Gathering data by asking individuals to draw how they would perceive these emotions visually using only abstract forms
Calmness
Anxiety
Using these responses I applied my creative skills to produce a sculpture that embodies all of drawings combined.
I wanted to use a material that felt sturdy, strong in colour and smooth to the touch. With that in mind, I chose to work with scagliola as it can be easily moulded and coloured, finished to a high level of smoothness and can be built in layers as many of the drawings are layered.
To keep the sculpture in line with the emotion of fear/ anxiety I knew I had to use a material that would be sharp, pointy and unfinished. I wanted the material to look very worn and degraded and held together precariously. For these reasons I chose to work with mild steel as this could be plasma cut, angle grinded and welded into various forms to produce the sculpture.
